:Who am I ...

... Kdo jsem:
I was born some two years after the Prague Spring in Pilsen -- the home of The Lager -- in the Czech Republic (formerly Eastern, now Central Europe :-) . My parents gave me a uniquely Czech name dating back to early history of our country. I keep on living in Pilsen despite ocassional break-outs elsewhere.
Happily married with Jana who is an anglophile as well (the two of us spent altogether 2.5 years on the British isles).  Keeping this geographical inclination also by being a member of the Excalibur scholarship Alumni group.
When 13, I went scout-hiking ("tramping" in the Czech, not American meaning of the word) and, with a bunch of life-friends, have kept off the beaten track since.  Taking camera with me if possible, and a guitar as well.  For the road often goes on to Domaslav.
And thanks to C.S.Lewis's understanding of mere Christianity, it became for me also the way to His kingdom.		 Narozen zhruba dva roky po Pražském jaru, v Plzni, kde přes krátkodobé výlety jinam vytrvale žiji.
Spokojeně ženatý s Janičkou, se kterou máme děti Jendu a Terezku a která je stejně anglofilní jako já (dohromady jsme na Britských ostrovech strávili 2 a půl roku).  Tuto zeměpisnou orientaci udržuji také skrze Excalibur Alumni, klub absolventů britských univerzit.
Někdy v sedmé třídě vzat prvně na vandr, na kterém jsme od té doby s vícero lidmi z Trampského sdružení Bezva společně, v lese i životě.  Když to jde, beru si na putování s sebou taky foťák, pro radost a pro pamatování, a taky kytaru; ta cesta vede poslední dobou často do Domaslavi nebo Holostřev.
A díky C.S.Lewisově odkrytí jádra křesťanství je mi už pár let i cestou do Jeho království.

Got an engineering degree in Computer Science in 1993 at the University of West Bohemia, spending also one term at the (at that time) Manchester Polytechnic (UK) as a TEMPUS student. And, probably because one university wasn't enough and I really wanted back to Yorkshire, in 1994-1995 I undertook and finished MSc course in Advanced Software Engineering at the Department of Computing of Sheffield University, UK (the master thesis project was done with EASAMS Ltd., part of GEC-Marconi, in Newcastle upon Tyne). The whole study was possible thanks to the Excalibur Scholarship Scheme. In 2004 finished PhD at the Faculty of Math and Physics, Charles University, Prague, in the Distributed Systems Group; the thesis was on Specification-Based Component Substitutability and Revision Identification with professor František Plášil as supervisor.

At present I am working at the Department of Computing in Plzen as an lecturer (teaching mainly software engineering and Internet applications). I am also the webmaster of the Department, and take part in various other bodies (e.g. strategic planning team at the Faculty of Applied Sciences). My major research areas are meta-modelling for component systems, component substitutability and related issues. I am a member of the DSS research group.

V roce 1993 dostudováno inženýrské studium oboru Informatika a výpočetní technika na Západočeské univerzitě, v rámci kterého jsem též strávil jako TEMPUS student semestr na Machester Polytechnic (Velká Británie).  Protože v Yorkshire je hezky a s jídlem roste chuť, rok 1994-1995 přinesl magisterský titul Master of Science (MSc.) z katedry počítačů univerzity v Sheffieldu, obor Advanced Software Engineering (diplomová práce pro firmu GEC-Marconi v Newcastle upon Tyne oceněna jako nejlepší v ročníku).  Studium se uskutečnilo díky stipendijní a morální podpoře Excalibur Scholarship Scheme. V roce 2004 jsem získal PhD na MFF UK Praha po obhájení disertace Specification-Based Component Substitutability and Revision Identification; projekt běžel v rámci Distributed Systems Research Grouppod vedením prof. Plášila.

Nyní pracuji na Katedře informatiky a výpočetní techniky Západočeské univerzity v Plzni, přednášeje softwarové inženýrství a tvorbu webových aplikací.  Jsem také správcem katedrálního WWW serveru.  K tomu navíc různé další aktivity, například podíl na přípravě systému hodnocení výuky na ZČU či práce ve strategickém týmu Fakulty aplikovaných věd. Mojí hlavní specializací v bádání je modelování komponentových systémů, nahraditelnost softwarových komponent a s tím spojené problémy. Jsem členem výzkumné skupiny DSS na Katedře informatiky.
